SIB & GSp present: Lulu Wang: Understanding modern China.

China’s capacity to influence the Western world is growing in many respects, but how much do we know about this large country? According to Lulu Wang, if you want to understand modern China and its active engagement in the world, you should look through the lens of Chinese world view.

China is a diverse country with numerous different religious movements and methods and it has 56 officially recognized ethnic minority groups and with a world view that is totally different from that of the Europeans. Furthermore, China possesses an incredibly rich and complex history which hints that its present is complicated too.

To understand ‘how China looks at the life and the world’ and how it influences China’s relation to Western-Europe, and in particular the Netherlands, Lulu Wang does not want to view China from the perspective of its political leaders, but rather bottom-up through her personal experiences and cross-cultural encounters between Chinese and Dutch people. Through her literary works and lectures, she aims to act as a bridge between China and the Netherlands.

This lecture is free of charge and will be held in English.
