Have you ever wanted to step inside the world of Westeros? Now you can.
On the 17th of April, winter is coming to Groningen as the SKLO hosts two Game of Thrones Talks, delivered by Greg Fuller and Thijs Porck. Both experts will drop Game of Thrones enthusiasts into the center of the seven kingdoms for an up-close look at the political intrigue and the traditions of magic and folklore that are at the heart of the HBO tv-series.

Marvel at mythical creatures such as dragons and white walkers within books and manuscripts from throughout history. Become a Stormborn ruler like Daenerys or a persuasive genius like Tyrion by learning how power in Game of Thrones works. Relive the struggle for survival by the show’s characters in the shadow of the Iron Throne.
Bend the knee … and come to Game of Thrones: History and Politics in the World of Westeros.
This event will take place at the Nieuwe Kerk, which is located at the Nieuwe Kerkhof 1, Groningen and starts at 20:30. Maximum is 500 persons, so let us know if you'll come!

Dr. Thijs Porck teaches Medieval Studies and Tolkien at Leiden University. His field of interest includes Anglo-Saxon culture and its heritage in popular books and films. Dr. Greg Fuller is an assistant professor in International Relations at the University of Groningen. From the moment the first novel in the Song of Ice and Fire series was published, Fuller is intrigued by how George R.R. Martin’s books not only help us to escape our political reality, but also teach us how to come to grips with it.
