Nacht van de Levensbeschouwing

9 oktober 19:30 - 23:00

Martinikerk Groningen

On Wednesday 9th October the U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mr. Pete Hoekstra, will be our guest in the third ‘Nacht van de Levensbeschouwing’ (Lifestance Night). This event will be hosted by the SKLO and takes place in the Martini church in Groningen. During the Q&A-session with Pete Hoekstra we will talk about cross-cultural communication and will touch upon the relationship between the Netherlands and the United States. We will also try to understand the normative pillars of American foreign policy and examine the ways in which the U.S. Ambassador attempts to forge links between nations and countries.

Pete Hoekstra was born in Groningen; at an early age he emigrated with his family to the United States. He became a prominent politician and business executive with a long history of public service. He served as a Member of Congress for 18 years (1993-2011) and since January 2018 Pete Hoekstra has fulfilled the function of U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands.

After the talk with Pete Hoekstra you can attend one of several workshops in which diversity in all its facets (cultural, religious et al.) will be explored further. Tickets and more information will be available at the link below.

The Q&A-session with Pete Hoekstra is part of the third ‘Nacht van de Levensbeschouwing’, an evening for students to think about (their) lifestance. What is the meaning of life, what is its worth and what do you do with it? These and similar questions are starting points in seeking to formulate your own ‘levensbeschouwing’.
